Gardaí release man in Mullingar road crash probe

A 27-year-old man who was being questioned about a serious accident in which a young man was critically injured, has been released without charge.

The 24-year-old, who is being treated in hospital in Co. Westmeath, was struck by a car in Mullingar in the early hours of this morning.

The victim sustained serious head injuries in the incident and is being cared for at Mullingar Hospital.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
