Gardaí recover ‘power tool component’ in Kenneth O'Brien murder probe

Gardaí have recovered equipment which may have been used to dismember the body of Kenneth O'Brien.

Reports have said a number of items, including a power tool component, were found when Garda divers recovered a bag from the Royal Canal near Maynooth yesterday.

Meanwhile, DNA results are expected later on several body parts taken from the Grand Canal yesterday near Sallins in Co Kildare.

Update (7.43pm): DNA analysis has established that they are those of Kenneth O’Brien, gardai have confirmed.

The torso of 33-year-old Kenneth O'Brien was found in the canal in Ardclough over a week ago.

Diesel fitter O'Brien, who had returned home from Australia in recent weeks, left his home in Clondalkin, west Dublin on January 15 and was never seen again.
