Gardaí question two over gangland murders

Two men were being questioned by detectives tonight over three separate murders after being arrested in a Dublin jail.
The pair – aged 31 and 27 years old – were detained in Wheatfield Prison over the killings of two innocent men caught-up in Limerick’s warring gangland violence – Roy Collins and Shane Geoghegan.
They are also being quizzed about the death of James Cronin, who was found shot dead in a shallow grave in the city in April last year.
They are serving sentences for assault and road traffic offences.
Gardaí believed Mr Cronin was murdered in a gangland dispute linked to the killing of a 40-year-old man in the Garryowen area of the city just days before.
Last November Mr Geoghegan was gunned down by gangland criminals in a case of mistaken identity while walking home from a friend’s house.
Mr Collins was working in an arcade in the city’s Roxboro shopping centre, attached to the family-owned Steering Wheel pub, when he was shot in April.
Detectives believe the shooting was a revenge attack because a member of Mr Collins’ family had given evidence against a leading Limerick gangster.
