Gardaí: O'Sullivan 'will be a uniting force' as new Commissioner

Rank-and-file Gardaí say Noirin O'Sullivan has their 100% backing to become the next Garda Commissioner.

The interim Commissioner will address the Garda Representative Association annual conference in Co Kerry today.

The GRA says Ms O'Sullivan will be a uniting force within the organisation in the wake of recent controversies.

The outgoing President John Parker says she has the association's full support to become Martin Callinan's successor.

He said: "The Commissioner has our 100% support, she has been very engaged with the force from the inception of her tenure.

"She has been interacting on a day-to-day basis with representative associations. I do think she'll be a uniting force within the organisation and I do think that the organisation will rally behind her."
