Gardaí have confirmed that a man in his 20s was arrested following a harness race on the main Cork to Mallow road which saw competitors weave dangerously into the path of oncoming traffic.

Gardaí have confirmed that a man in his 20s was arrested following a harness race on the main Cork to Mallow road which saw competitors weave dangerously into the path of oncoming traffic.

The incident, which took place on the morning of May 5, has garnered attention after footage was posted to the video-sharing site YouTube.

The footage wasapparently filmed by a member of the competitors' entourage travelling in a vehicle alongside.

It depicts the two harness racers - also known as sulky racers - repeatedly crossing into the path of oncoming traffic amid sustained attempts by a garda car to bring the proceedings to a halt.

Gardaí in Blarney said a male in his late 20s was arrested at the scene after the race and conveyed to Gurranabraher Garda Station in Cork

He was later released and the matter is currently under investigation.
