Gardaí look for information after discovery of man's body in Rathcoole

Gardaí are appealing for information after the body of a man was found in Rathcoole in Dublin today.

The man's body was uncovered by a member of the public on Steelstown Lane just before 3pm today.

Gardaí say they do not suspect a link between the death and the discovery of a baby girl in the same location in recent weeks.

Gardaí discovered the man's body on Steelstown Lane in Rathcoole, Co Dublin following a 999 call from a member of the public just before 3am this morning.

The man was found with visible injuries and medical assistance was immediately sought. However, the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

Gardaí say they are very anxious to speak with anyone who traveled on Steelstown Lane between 12 midnight last night and 3am this morning and urged them to contact gardaí.

They have not revealed the man's identity, but he is understood to be Irish.

But Superintendent Brendan Connolly advised that "at this early stage of the investigation no link has been established between this incident and the discovery of a baby girl in the same vicinity in recent weeks".

An incident room has been set up by investigating gardaí at Clondalkin Garda Station and a post-mortem on the man's body being is scheduled for at James Connolly Memorial Hospital, Blanchardstown later.

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the services of the State Pathologist were requested.

A Divisional Search Team is co-ordinating a search of the area, and relevant CCTV footage is being examined as well as house to house enquiries.
