An investigation is underway after a man was seriously assaulted in county Galway over night.

Gardaí issue appeal for help after Galway assault

An investigation is underway after a man was seriously assaulted in county Galway over night.

It happened at High Street in Tuam at approximately 2.30am.

The 27-year-old was taken to University College Hospital Galway with serious head injuries. He was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as serious.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses who may have been in the area of High Street between 2am and 3am to contact Tuam Garda Station on 093-24202.
