Two people remain in garda custody this morning in connection with a serious assault in Dublin.

A 20-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after he was attacked by a number of people at a pedestrian bridge in Tallaght on New Year's Day.

He was set upon at Priorsgate, on Saint Dominic’s road at around 4am.

A 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the assault, to contact Tallaght garda station.
