Gardaí have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the murder of Nicola Collins.

The body of the 38-year-old victim was found in the flat on Popham’s Road in Farranree, Cork city, when the emergency services were alerted shortly after 3am on Monday.

Officers carried out an arrest this morning in Limerick city.

He is being held at Mayfield Garda Station in Cork under the provisions of Section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984.

A 42-year-old man detained in connection with her death was released by Gardaí last night. A file will be prepared for the DPP.

Gardaí are appealing to witnesses or to anyone who can assist with the investigation to contact Mayfield Garda Station on 021-4558510, The Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any garda station.

Investigators are now viewing CCTV footage collected from businesses and homes near the apartment as they search for vital clues in the investigation.

Door-to-door enquiries have also been carried out by members of the garda team working on the case. Forensics gardaí remained at the scene for several hours yesterday.
