A taxi driver is in a serious condition in hospital after an assault in Dublin early this morning.

Gardaí are investigating the serious assault on Pearse Street at around 12.20am this morning near the junction of Erne Street.

The 41-year-old male taxi driver was attacked by a man who left the scene in the direction of Erne Street.

The taxi driver was taken to James's Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

No arrests have been made and investigations are underway.

Gardaí are asking for anyone who witnessed the assault to call them at Pearse Street on 01 6669000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
