One man has been taken to hospital following a road crash which closed the M7 Dublin to Limerick road this morning.

One man has been taken to hospital following a road crash which closed the M7 Dublin to Limerick road this morning.

The motorway, which had been closed between Junction 27 at Birdhill and Junction 28 at the Castletroy turnoff, has now reopened.

A man in his 20s lost control of his car which struck a barrier on the road around 8.30am.

No one else was in the car and no other vehicle was involved.

The crash resulted in massive tailbacks up to 3km.

The driver's injuries are not believed to be serious.

Gardaí at Henry Street in Limerick are investigating the circumstances of the crash.
