Gardaí in Cork are hunting two men who stole a 'substantial' amount of cash in an armed robbery on a post office in the city this morning.

Two men wearing motorcycle helmets entered High St Post Office at around 9.20am this and produced a small hatchet and a claw hammer before threatening staff, gardaí said.

They caused extensive damage to the post office and took a substantial amount of cash before escaping on a high powered motorcycle, parked nearby, which was subsequently recovered in the Ballincollig area.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anyone who was in the High Street area, Cork City, between 9am-9.30am this moring and, who may have seen the motorcycle to contact them on 021 4522000, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
