Eight people are still being held by gardaí in connection with organised criminal activity in the south-east of the country.

Eight people are still being held by gardaí in connection with organised criminal activity in the south-east of the country.

The eight were arrested yesterday by officers in Kilkenny, Tipperary and Waterford when a number of raids were carried out as part of Operation Munster.

The target was gangs suspected of carrying out a large number of burglaries.

Twelve people were initially detained. One man and one woman were released without charge, while two other men were arrested on warrant and have been transferred to prison.

Gardaí recovered jewellery and electronics during the operation.
