Gardaí have confirmed that they have investigated allegations of substantial tax evasion by people, including senior politicians and at least one former judge, in 2007.
The Garda press office said the allegations were fully investigated and a file was sent to the DPP.
Earlier, a member of the Public Accounts Committee said a current minister could be called in to explain why they did not act on allegations of tax evasion among politicians.
Fianna Fáil's Sean Fleming said a dossier given to PAC members this week came from within a Government department, and was probably known to the minister in charge.
The dossier claims that several politicians used offshore bank accounts to avoid paying tax.
TDs will meet next Wednesday to discuss the revelations.
Gardaí confirmed this evening that they investigated the allegations several years ago, and a file was sent to the DPP.
In a statement Gardaí said if any new or further information on these matters are provided to them, then they will of course be investigated.
