Gardai have confirmed that they are investigating an incident in which two shots were fired over the home of a prison officer early yesterday morning.
The same officer was the victim of another attack in Limerick last week when his car was petrol-bombed.
So far no one has been injured in the attacks, which included yesterday’s attack in the Huntsfield area of the city, local gardai said.
Last Monday, the prison officer’s car was petrol-bombed by three masked men, who were seen fleeing from the scene.
On Wednesday, a suspicious device was left on the doorstep of another prison officer’s home in the Shelbourne Road area in the north of the city.
Army Bomb Disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion, but found the device to be a hoax.
The Prison Officers’ Association has condemned the attacks.
According to the Irish Examiner, a gang of prisoners are using their contacts on the outside to launch a ‘‘campaign of intimidation’’ against prison officers.
