Gardaí arrest three after mid-west arms find
A three-man gang was being questioned by gardaí today after guns and ammunition were seized by detectives.
The trio were picked up by officers after a car was stopped and searched at 9.30am near Newmarket On Fergus.
Gardaí from the Limerick and Clare divisions recovered a number of firearms, including a shotgun and a handgun, bullets and high-visibility jackets in the operation on the old Limerick to Clare Road at Drumline.
It is understood the search was part of ongoing attempts by detectives to smash an organised crime network in the Limerick area.
All three, who come from Cork, Clare and Limerick, were taken to Shannon and Ennis garda stations for questioning.
They are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act where they can be held for up to 72 hours.
