Gardaí interrupted a burglary in progress in Dublin disarming a man with a knife who was subsequently arrested.

Gardaí interrupted a burglary in progress in Dublin disarming a man with a knife who was subsequently arrested.

The incident happened at 11pm last night on North Great Georges Street when Gardaí received reports of a burglary in progress at a flat.

"On arrival the discovered a male armed with a knife inside the flat," a garda statement said.

"Following a brief standoff the male was disarmed and arrested.

"No one was injured during the incident and the residents of the flat were not present at the time."

The 29-year-old man was taken to Store St Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
