Gardaí have arrested a man following a robbery in Ennis, Co. Clare this morning.

At approximately 9.25am a man entered a newsagents shop at The Market in Ennis.

He threatened a staff member with a knife and left the scene with a sum of money. Nobody was injured during the robbery.

A passing garda patrol was alerted to the robbery and arrested the 29-year-old man and recovered the knife a short distance away near Parnell Street.

The man is being held under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Ennis Garda Station.
