A man has been arrested following an armed robbery in Co. Tipperary.

A man has been arrested following an armed robbery in Co. Tipperary.

Gardaí were alerted to the robbery at a petrol station at Greenane, Clonmel, at around 4.30am this morning.

A man was reported to have left the scene on foot carrying a firearm.

The suspect pointed what appeared to be a handgun at Gardaí as he approached Clonmel town centre, and the area was cleared as armed Gardaí confronted him.

The man was arrested and he is being held at Clonmel Garda Station under Section 30 Offences Against the State Act.

Nobody was injured during the incident and investigations are continuing.
