Gardaí have launched an appeal for information after a woman in her 50s lost her life in a collision in Limerick.

The incident in Newcastle West at about 6.30pm yesterday saw three cars involved in a pile-up on the main N21 around three miles on the Rathkeale side of Newcastle West in Limerick.

The woman was the second person to lose her life on the roads this weekend. A man in Kerry died on Saturday when he fell from a tractor.

The woman who died in the Limerick accident was a passenger of one of the vehicles. She passed away at the scene. She is believed to have been from the locality and in her 50s.

Three others were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The Kerry accident happened on Saturday evening when a man fell from a tractor in Mastergeehy Gortatlea. He suffered fatal injuries in the incident.

Meanwhile, a man remains in a serious condition at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise following a single-vehicle crash in Athy, Co Kildare on Saturday night.

Gardaí investigating all three incidents are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
