Gardaí appeal for information over human remains at recycling plant
Gardaí are renewing their appeal for information connected to the discovery of human remains at a Dublin recycling plant in July.
The partial remains, found at Thornton's Recycling Plan on the Killeen Road in Ballyfermot, have yet to be identified.
Gardaí believe the remains are that of a European man between 25 and 45 years old, and approximately 5'8" – 6' tall. The man appears to have had surgery to reduce brain swelling after a head injury at some point in his past.
Gardaí also discovered a red ink ribbon from a franking machine - a machine that prints postal labels or 'franks'. Gardaí found a spool of ink ribbon from an SM26 franking machine near the remains.
They also found the remains were contaminated with acetic acid, a chemical used in industries involving textiles, dyes, photography, pesticides and food preservatives.
They are appealing to anyone who is concerned about a friend or family member not seen since July, especially if that person had a prior brain injury, to contact them.
Gardaí are also interested in speaking to anyone who may have knowledge of the franking ribbon or anyone who noticed a "strong vinegary smell" near their home or work during July.
