Gardaí appeal for information after child is shot in neck

Gardaí have said last night's shooting in Dublin, which has left a child in a serious condition in hospital, is an isolated incident and they do not believe it is linked to organised crime.

A six-year-old boy is being treated at Our Lady's Children's Hospital after he was shot in the neck at the Croftwood housing estate in Ballyfermot at around 10pm last night and is said to be in a stable condition.

He was wounded after a one or more suspects tried to open the door of a house and shot into the hallway, where it is believed the intended target was missed.

Gardaí added they are still unsure whether there were one or two suspects involved, however they note they are following a definite line of enquiry.

A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to the boy’s family.

Gardaí in Ballyfermot are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Gardai in Ballyfermot on 01-6667200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1-800-666-111 or any Garda station.
