Gardaí in Sligo are investigating an aggravated burglary which occurred at a house in the town.

Gardaí in Sligo are investigating an aggravated burglary which occurred at a house in the town.

A man in his 60s was seriously assaulted in his home, on Old Market Street, sometime between 9pm on Wednesday and 9pm on Friday.

He was brought to Sligo General Hospital where he is now in a serious condition.

The scene has been preserved, as a full technical examination is carried out.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have seen anything unusual or suspicious to contact them at Sligo Garda Station.
