Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 40s was killed in a crash in Co Louth last night.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 40s was killed in a crash in Co Louth last night.

Three other people including a 10-year-old girl were injured in the collision.

At around 10.30pm last night three cars collided just after Junction 15 Castlebellingham on the northbound carriageway of the M1 motorway.

A man in his 40s, who is believed to be from Co. Louth, died at the scene.

Two women, who were the drivers of the other cars, and a 10-year-old girl who was a passenger, are being treated at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital in Drogheda.

The carriageway remains closed this morning while a forensic investigation is carried out.
