The Central Bank has put part of its investigation into Anglo Irish Bank on hold, on foot of advice from Gardaí.

In a statement, the Central Bank said it recently advised Gardaí of its intention to examine "specific issues" arising from its investigation into the bank, and people concerned with the management of Anglo.

However Gardaí, in consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions, advised the bank that it could prejudice future criminal prosecutions, so the examination has been deferred.
