Garda whistleblower raised concerns six years ago

It is reported today that a high-profile Garda whistleblower first raised concerns about alleged behaviour in the force in 2008.

According to the Irish Times, Sergeant Maurice McCabe made allegations which were investigated separately by the Gardaí and the Garda Ombudsman Commission.

It follows reports at the weekend that a new female Garda whistleblower has come forward.

Issues she has raised are in addition to a new dossier which reportedly contains 200 fresh allegations that will be given to the Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

Independent TD Mick Wallace has welcomed news that a new whistleblower has come forward, saying that a lack of oversight in our police force has caused a serious breakdown in discipline.
