Recruitment to An Garda Síochána will begin today.
It is the first drive to take on more gardaí for five years after numbers dropped to around 13,000 due to the public-sector recruitment embargo.
An announcement is expected by the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan at a passing out-service for Garda reserves at the Templemore training college in Co Tipperary later today.
