Garda overtime budget to be hit by further cut
It is being claimed the fight against criminal gangs is to take a major hit because of Garda cutbacks.
It follows the introduction of €10m in cuts to overtime at the start of the year and more cuts to garda overtime are expected.
According to the Irish Independent, officers are having their budget allocation for the rest of the year reduced, and it has been signalled they should expect the axe to fall again in October's Budget.
A senior officer said: "The big operations will continue, but heads of national units and local management at divisional and district level will now have to think twice before ordering their members to work overtime.
"We will manage these reduced budgets to the best of our ability, but it has to be accepted that we cannot hope to continue to achieve all of the results that we notched up in the recent past."
