Garda morale 'has never been lower', says GRA representative

Members of the Garda Representative Association (GRA) are calling for the Justice Minister Alan Shatter to be excluded from their annual conference this year, because of his comments over the state of the force.

Louth representative Garda Robbie Peelo said that they strongly disagree with remarks from the Justice Minister that resources and morale are not a problem for gardaí.

He also said that they will put forward the motion not to invite Minister Shatter to the conference when the central executive committee meets tomorrow.

Garda Peelo says morale is at an all-time low and that Minister Shatter's comments are doing to nothing alleviate Garda concerns.

"We just found it unbelievable to be sitting there reading it and listening to it constantly in the media," he said.

"As far as we're concerned, morale in the force is on its knees. We've never seen it as low, or as bad."
