Garda Inspectorate happy with measures to prevent corruption in penalty-points system

The head of the Garda Inspectorate said today that he is happy with new efforts to stop corruption in the penalty points system.

Robert Olsen says several steps are being taken to make sure the issues raised by Maurice McCabe are not repeated.

He said that similar steps are now underway to make sure Gardaí do not massage the crime figures.

"We had recommended a similar thing, as you know, in the fixed-charge penalty inspection, and I can tell you that we have had at least two or three briefings by this high-level group and they are, frankly, fixing it," he said.

"They're coming up with some really good stuff, so I'm pretty much assured that the same process is going to be happening."
