The Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan has said he has sought a report into an incident involving the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and an off-duty Garda in Co Meath.
Mr Kenny was confronted by the member of the force while out canvassing in Ratoath village earlier this week.
Martin Callinan is also criticising walkouts by four delegates at the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors conference.
An exchange took place over the planned public sector pay cuts between the Taoiseach and an off-duty Garda on Monday afternoon, while Enda Kenny was on the campaign trail in Ratoath village with Fine Gael's Meath East candidate.
The Garda Commissioner has ordered a report into the confrontation:
Martin Callinan is also hitting out at the decision of four Carlow-Kilkenny delegates to walkout at the start of addresses at the AGSI conference in Sligo from the Justice Minister and the Commissioner himself.
The AGSI has distanced itself from the action as a step too far.
