Garda Commissioner promises review after Dáil protest

The Garda Commissioner has promised a full review of security measures around Wednesday's protests at the Dáil.

Noirin O'Sullivan met with the Committee on Proceedures and Privilege in the Dáil this morning after a number of Oireachtas members were stopped in their cars coming to and from the Dáil.

Former Minister Alan Shatter's car was surrounded as he tried to enter the Dáil, while Senators Mary Moran and Denis Landy had to abandon their cars on the street when protestors refused to let them leave Leinster House.

The Commissioner acknowledged the constitutional right of Oireachtas members to come to and go from government buildings and said she expected there would be a number of arrests in the wake of Wednesday's protests, with a number of people having already been questioned.
