Garda Commissioner faces committee following Leinster House protest

The Garda Commissioner is to appear before an Oireachtas Committee this morning to face questions over a protest outside the Dáil this week.

The anti-austerity protest on Kildare Street descended into chaos on Wednesday evening, when protestors clashed with Gardai and blocked traffic going in and out of Leinster House.

Two senators had to abandon their cars while the former Justice Minister Alan Shatter was blocked into his vehicle.

Garda Commissioner Noirin O'Sullivan will appear before the Committee for Procedures and Privileges - which is meeting in private - to explain the Garda response to the incident.
