Garda budget stretched to limit and will run out, reports claim

Garda wages are reportedly under threat.

A €70m hole in the force's finances has led the Irish Independent to claim that pay packets will run out this autumn.

The new Justice Minister is expected to seek approval for a supplementary budget to fill the gap.

The paper also says that investigations into white collar crime and online pornography are being badly hampered by the cash-flow problems.

It's believed there will be shortfall of €60-70m, and the force may run out of funds with which to pay wages and allowances.

The new Justice Minister is expected to seek approval for a supplementary budget to fill the gap before wages run out in the autumn.
