A teenager from County Galway has drowned off the Croatian coast.

The young man's body was recovered from the sea at around 9.45am off the coast of Split.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance through its consulate in Zagreb.

It is understood the young man, who is aged in his late teens and from Moycullen, was part of a group of 40 young people from Galway who had been attending a music festival in Split.

The group was due to travel back to Galway later this week.
