An Irish teenager has died following a swimming accident in Germany.

An Irish teenager has died following a swimming accident in Germany.

The 16-year-old from Corofin in Galway had been on holiday visiting a relative in Munich when the tragedy happened last week.

He had been treated in hospital but passed away yesterday.

A post mortem examination will take place in the coming days.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says it is aware of the case and is providing consular assistance.
