The Galway publican who is openly defying the workplace smoking ban has been given until 4pm today to implement the ban or face court action.

The Western Health Board has vowed to seek a High Court injunction against Ciaran Levanzin, the owner of Fibber Magee’s on Eyre Square, if customers are still smoking after the 4pm deadline.

Mr Levanzin said yesterday that he was taking legal advice and would make a decision later today on whether to continue his stance against the smoking ban.

He has claimed that his business has fallen by more than 50% since the ban was introduced on March 29.
