Further interruptions expected to Cork water supply

Cork City Council has advised of further interruptions to water supply across the northside of the city today as it continues repairs to a major water main which ruptured yesterday.

Engineers are still working to repair the serious break in the trunk water main in the Cattle Market Street area of the city.

A spokesman said residents and business owners in surrounding areas, including Tivoli Estate, Glenthorn, Lover’s Walk, Old Youghal Road (in the vicinity of Collins Barracks), Middle Glanmire Road and Liffey Park, will be affected.

"The council is carrying out essential engineering works to repair the broken main and will endeavour to have water supply, albeit at reduced pressure to the areas affected while works are on-going," he said.

"Every effort will be made to keep the disruption to a minimum."

"Some discoloration to the water supply may occur when the water supply is restored.

"This discoloration is harmless, and will clear in a short time. Please check the clarity of the water at the kitchen tap before operating drink vending machines, washing machines, dishwashers and other appliances.

"Cork City Council regrets any inconvenience caused to consumers as a result of this essential work."

The spokesman also asked people to advise their neighbours of the problem.
