There have been fresh appeals for the Government to re-instate discretionary medical cards to those who have had them removed.
The process to review the allocation of discretionary cards was brought to a halt last week and was discussed at the Cabinet meeting yesterday.
There is speculation that cards already removed could be re-instated prior to a reassessment of the review process, instead of afterwards.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny had pledged the Government would "fix" the debacle, and the Cabinet health sub-committee will discuss the issue again in the coming weeks.
CEO of Down Syndrome Ireland Pat Clarke has appealed to the Government to reverse the policy immediately.
"There are stories out there where there has been some sort of a row-back initially on the more serious cases," he said, "but I think in order for the Government to take the stress out of these families, (a reversal of the policy) would be very welcome."
