Irishman Stephen McFaul, who escaped the Algerian hostage crisis, has arrived in the UK, it has been confirmed

The 36-year old engineer managed to escape captivity last Thursday after the Algerian military began an assault on the gas complex in the Sahara desert, where a group of foreign oil workers had been taken hostage by Islamic militants.

Stephen is said to be resting with family at the moment and hasn't yet returned home to Belfast.
