The free-travel pass for pensioners will not be taken away in Budget 2015.

Social Protection Minister Joan Burton made the announcement at a pre-Budget forum in Dublin.

There had been speculation that the scheme, which is availed of by thousands of pensioners and grants free travel on public transport, could be targeted to achieve savings.
