Four youths accused of sex assault on 14-year-old girl
Four youths are to stand trial accused of sexually assaulting and having under-age sex with a then 14-year-old girl.
It is alleged she was abused by six youths, whose ages range from 17 to 19, on four dates in March and February 2010, at three locations in Co. Kildare.
Four of the youths, who are aged 18 and 19, appeared again at Dublin District Court today where they were served with books of evidence by Garda Paul Carney.
Judge Bryan Smyth then made an order sending them forward for trial on indictment at the next term of Nass Circuit Court, in June.
He told each of them that if they intended to rely on alibis they must notify the prosecution within 14 days.
As conditions of bail, the four young men, who have already surrendered their passports, were ordered not to apply for any new travel documents; they must sign on once a week at a garda station and have “no contact directly or indirectly with the alleged injured party or members of her family”.
The teenagers, who are non-nationals, did not address the court and were granted legal aid.
The teens, who have not indicated how they intend to plead, made no reply when they were originally charged on October 21 last.
One of the 18-year-old youths, who was aged 16 at the time of the alleged incidents, is accused of three counts of having sex with the girl and two allegations of sexual assault.
The second 18-year-old faces two counts of sexual assault and one allegation of having sex with the complainant. He was also aged 16 when the alleged incidents happened.
The third 18-year-old is accused of having sex with the girl twice.
The eldest defendant, a 19-year-old, who was aged 17 at the time, is accused of having sex with her twice and he also faces one allegation of sexual assault.
Two 17-year-old co-defendants are to appear at the Dublin Children's Court next week.
