Former League of Ireland player jailed after pub stabbing23/01/2013 - 13:08:17
A former League of Ireland soccer star who stabbed a man during a late-night attack in Finglas, Dublin has been jailed for five-and-a-half-years.
Trevor Donnelly (aged 37) from Balrothery Estate in Tallaght had pleaded guilty to assault causing serious harm at the Village Inn Pub, Finglas.
He said that he has been living in fear for 10 years, after giving evidence against a vicious Dublin crime gang.
It was the State's case the near-fatal stabbing of Keith Noone in April 2010 was unconnected to that incident, and that the victim was an innocent man.
In imposing a five-and-a-half-year sentence, Judge Mary Ellen Ring said Donnelly's life had clearly fallen apart after the 2000 assault, but "two wrongs don't make a right."
