Former Fine Gael Councillor Anne Devitt said today that she wants to stand for the party in future local elections.
The Mahon Tribunal report stated that Councillor Devitt had acted "entirely inappropriately" in accepting "professional fees" while working for two developers involved in rezonings and planning applications.
She decided to step aside from Fine Gael in a bid to protect the party's integrity and has insisted that she does not feel like a scapegoat.
Ms Devitt said she hopes she can clear her name and stand again in the local elections, but that the party ultimately will make that decision.
"I would hope to be able to stand in the future for local elections," she said.
"I am part of the FG gene pool … whether Fine Gael accept me back into the fold is a matter for Fine Gael and you have to ask them that question."
