The former Lord Mayor of Cork John Murray has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for the sexual assault of a teenage girl.

The former Lord Mayor of Cork John Murray has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for the sexual assault of a teenage girl.

The 83-year-old, with an address at Gregg Road in Cork city, was convicted of five out of six counts of sexually assaulting the teenager in the 1990s.

Today at Cork Circuit Criminal Court he was given a four-year prison sentence with the last three years suspended for one of the counts.

He received a two-year sentence with the final year suspended for the other four counts.
