Forecasters predict 150km/hr winds on exposed coasts

Met Eireann have issued a Status Red weather warning for parts of the country from this evening.

Very stormy weather is expected across the country, however Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Kerry, Clare, Galway and Mayo are expected to be worst affected.

Disruption to power supplies and possible storm damage are likely as a result, with the warning in effect from 4pm this afternoon through to tomorrow afternoon.

Severe damaging gusts of up to 140 kilometres per hour expected, reaching 150 kilometres per hour in exposed coastal areas.

Irish Ferries and Stena Line have already cancelled some services for tomorrow due to the expected stormy sea conditions.
