The Transport Minister is today defending his decision to go on holiday last week - as the sub zero conditions continued to cripple the country's infrastructure.

The Transport Minister is today defending his decision to go on holiday last week - as the sub zero conditions continued to cripple the country's infrastructure.

Noel Dempsey said it was unfair of people to focus on his trip to Malta, branding it a "distraction".

He claimed that he cut his holiday short and returned to Ireland today because his absence was distracting from the good work being done by frontline staff.
