Heavy overnight rain has led to the West Cork town of Clonakilty being flooded for the third time this year.
However, quick thinking by the emergency services is thought to have prevented a repeat of the previous devastation for homes and businesses.
The emergency began in Clonakilty at around 1am when heavy rain and high tides combined to fill up drains and culverts, as water began to build up in the town.
By 2am, flood waters reached a depth of two feet or more.
Gardaí closed off roads and civil defence and town council staff sandbagged businesses and diverted much of the water by knocking down a wall, preventing a repeat of the damage of the June floods.
The heavy overnight rain is causing problems for motorists with AA Roadwatch reporting flooding and excess surface water in parts of Munster, Connaught and Leinster.
