A flood alert has been issued for Cork city for later this afternoon.
Householders and businesses are being warned to take precautionary measures.
A combination of a tidal surge at around 5pm, southerly winds, low pressure and a high spring tide are expected to lead to tidal flooding later.
Low-laying areas of the city centre are most at risk including the quays, South Mall and Stable Lane.
The city council said the main impact was expected to be on traffic in the city.
