Roscommon County Manager Frank Dawson is expected to issue a statement in relation to claims made by Deputy Flanagan that a senior official of Roscommon County Council "sorted out" another penalty points offence for him, though he made no request for this to be done.
Deputy Flanagan cancelled his scheduled departure for Tucson, Arizona for St Patrick's Day celebrations this morning in order to deal with the situation.
Speaking to Shannonside - Northernsound's Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Deputy Flanagan said he knew he has let down his constituents, especially as he ran for election on an anti-corruption ticket.
"I don't think it's a resigning matter. I think there's a lot of other things I'll be able to do for the people of Roscommon and south Leitrim...but there's no questioning (that) I have let people down. There is no denying that," he said.
"For that, and to the people of Ireland - I am sorry…I have definitely disappointed people. I have disappointed myself."
